Kim Musgrove's Physical Education Page

SmileTrinity preschoolers have enjoyed working with beach balls, lummi sticks, rhythm ribbons, jump ropes, hoops, playground balls, paddles  and many other manipulatives in their PE classes that meet twice a week.  These manipulatives have helped the students in lessons about space awareness, pathways,  striking objects, hand-eye coordination, rhythmic beats, and locomotor and non-locomotor movements.   The students have learned some old favorites such as Red Rover, Red Light, Duck, Duck, Goose and London Bridge.  They have also participated in some new, low organized games such as Fairy Godmother(father) Tag, and Five Noses.  Four  year old classes have had lessons in learning to strike a t-ball, shooting a ball into a basketball goal and working with hula hoops.  All classes begin with exercises and I am amazed at the improvement students have shown in performing various exercises.  The students are also learning about taking turns, sharing, and good sportsmanship.

First through fifth graders have just completed the final testing of the President's Physical Fitness Challenge for 2010.  I am so very pleased with their effort and improvement since they were first tested in October.  Congratulations to the following students who scored either in the Presidential Level (85th percentile) or National Level (50th percentile) in all  five events:

Presidential Level:       Marco Hebert (first grade) and Cameron Furrate (fourth grade)

National Level:  Callie Tate, Patrick Jones, Jonathan Hoffstetter, Dylan Fleischbein, Hayden Dudley, James Lindquist, Andrew Gould, Bailey McLaughlin,  Julia Rogers, Femke Maassen-Veeters, Rachel Magee, Taylor Robertson, and Hannah Powers.

All of these students will receive a certificate and emblem from the President's Physical Fitness Council.  All other students will receive a participation certificate from the council as well.  Thanks to all parents who helped and encouraged their children all year.  Special thanks to Kirby Hebert for constructing a sit and reach box  and also for helping me test the students.

Fourth and fifth graders just finished a unit on volleyball.  All other students have been learning different tag games, relay races and dodge ball games (ever heard of guard 'n gangster dodge ball?) and having a great time despite the heat!

NOTE:    STUDENTS LISTED ABOVE WHO SCORED EITHER PRESIDENTIAL OR NATIONAL ON ALL EVENTS WILL BE PRESENTED WITH CERTIFICATES AND PATCHES AT MORNING MEETING, TUESDAY, MAY18.  PARENTS ARE INVITED!
